12 September 2014

The NMMU Dept of Arts & Culture presents an ‘Isisusa’ concert on Tuesday, 23 September 2014 at 19h00 at the PE Opera House.   Tickets will be available at the door as well as from the Arts & Culture office at the cost of R50 for adults, pensioners R20 and students R20.

This year's concert 'Legends & Legacy' pays tribute to Port Elizabeth artists, past and present and honours their contribution to the local music scene.

Headlining the show, featuring a 17-piece Big Band, is vocalist Titi Luzipo, local legend Dudley Tito (sax), Patrick Pasha (sax), Melvyn Matthews (vocals) and Lami Zokufa (piano). NMMU Jazz lecturer John Edwards (piano) will also perform some of his original music with the band.

The programme features proudly SA music including jazz and popular music. Music by the late PE jazz legend Erroll Cuddumbey will also be performed.

NMMU will present Certificates of recognition to some of the participating artists for their contribution to music development in the Metro Community

The band and soloists are all NMMU students & alumni as well as respected members of the PE music community. The Isisusa Big Band, led by Ulagh Williams from Two Tone Productions (piano) features well known PE musicians such as Phumlani Mtiti (sax), Kyle Du Preez (trombone), Marlon Louis (trumpet) and Creshwell October (guitar).

The show coincides with celebrating 20 years of democracy which will be reflected in the choice of repertoire.

Music from SA legends such as Winston Mankunku, Letta Mbulu, Brenda Fassie, Mango Groove as well as our very own Errol Cuddumbey will be performed.

The show is musically produced in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture by Gareth Williams and musical direction is by Ulagh Williams, both NMMU lecturers in music at NMMU.
