5FM, Billabong and Nissan Juke partner for International Music festival
04 June 2012
From humble beginnings the event now boasts a prize purse of over R1.2 million and has become one of the most popular stops on the ASP (Association of surfing Professionals) Calendar.
The 2012 event will have 144 surfers compete for valuable ASP world-ranking points. There will be around 100 international surfers and 40 local South Africans, which is the largest contingent of South Africans ever in a local ASP event.
South Africa’s own and Billabong Pro J-Bay 2011 defending champion - Jordy Smith has confirmed that he will be defending his title this year.
Another exciting addition to this year’s event is the ‘5FM Music Festival at the Billabong Pro J-Bay, proudly driven by Nissan Juke’ The festival promises to be three days of top class local as well as international acts and entertainment.
With approximately 60 artists on the line up, the 5FM Music Festival at the Billabong Pro J-Bay, proudly driven by Nissan Juke is set to become one of the coolest music properties in SA. The Billabong Pro usually attracts around 60 000 spectators and with the music festival alongside it this year- it is estimated that this number will increase. The surfing is also broadcasted to approximately 4 billion homes during the event and the 5FM Music Festival will certainly enjoy some of this coverage as its strategic partner.
The 5FM music festival is due to take place from Friday 13 July – Sunday 15 July 2012 and will also house the official closing party for the Billabong Pro. Making use of a large outdoor area, camping facilities will also be provided for festival goers, making it much like some of the larger world-renowned festivals such as Glastonbury and V-Fest. Transport will be provided to and from the contest site and the music festival will kick off each day as the activities on the beach come to a close.
The 5FM music festival line up can be summarised as follows:

Main outdoor arena – international and local concert
