The Algoa Bay Whale Festival 2026 was officially launched during a special media and exhibitor function held on 28 May 2026 at the Boardwalk Mall, where guests enjoyed a photographic exhibition, live music, and a preview of this year’s exciting festival programme.

Returning to the scenic Willows Resort and Conference Centre on 6 and 7 June 2026, the festival once again promises a vibrant celebration of ocean conservation, marine science, coastal heritage, local creativity, and family entertainment — all inspired by the annual humpback whale migration along the Algoa Bay coastline.

This year’s festival places a strong spotlight on marine exploration and the mysteries of the deep, featuring the Addo Canyons Research and Exploration Cruise showcase, which highlights one of South Africa’s most significant yet lesser-known marine ecosystems and the vital role it plays in supporting whales, dolphins, penguins, and deep-sea biodiversity.

Festivalgoers can look forward to a dynamic programme that includes: • The new “Aweh-Let’s Swim – Rocking the Whale Tail” Ocean Swim • Educational coastal walk-and-talk experiences • Marine conservation and exploration presentations by leading scientists and researchers • Interactive family entertainment and children’s activities • Live music performances throughout Sunday • Cultural drumming experiences and a spectacular fire-dancing finale • Local food trucks, craft markets, exhibitors, and conservation displays

The festival’s educational programme features renowned marine experts, researchers, historians, and conservationists sharing insights into killer whales, African penguins, deep-sea ecosystems, ocean conservation, and Algoa Bay’s rich coastal history.

Families and visitors of all ages will also enjoy interactive exhibits, virtual reality experiences, whale watching opportunities, photography displays, artisan markets, and conservation engagement activities hosted by local organisations and tourism partners.

Organisers say the festival continues to grow as an important platform for environmental awareness, education, tourism, and community celebration within Nelson Mandela Bay.

“The Algoa Bay Whale Festival is more than just an event — it is an opportunity for the community to connect with the ocean, celebrate our natural heritage, and inspire conservation for future generations,” organisers said.
