WITH over 85 teams registered to compete, the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Night Relay around the North End Lake Stadium precinct staged its second event. The relay,  open to both running and walking teams, saw each team member completing one 4km lap around the North End Lake and Stadium.

Backed by the Mandela Bay Development Agency, Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism (NMBT) and presented by Kingfisher FM, the Business Night Relay draws positive attention from local businesses who have adopted the event as a great way to motivate their staff, build team spirit and offer their work force a great evening of fun and excitement.

“The response to the Business Night Relay has been overwhelming," said event organiser Mike Zoetmulder. “We had just under 60 teams taking part in July and August’s entry grew substantially with local companies like Cadbury's, Atlas Security and Rhino Plastics each entering more than five teams."

The route of the Business Night Relay Challenge is clockwise around the lake and stadium, with participants doing the 4km lap in relay format.

“Sporting and fun activities add exceptional vibe to the city. They bring life and excitement to Nelson Mandela Bay,” said NMBT marketing manager Titus Chuene. “This is also a fun way to involve the locals of the friendly city. We are seeking more local participation, especially as we focus on Tourism Month in September.”

The Business Night Relay is also used as a fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth. The event features teams from companies, educational institutions, schools and even social clubs or groups.
