All Roads Lead to The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium

Port Elizabeth, Thursday, 27 September 2018 - Rugby enthusiasts have come out in support for this Saturday’s (29 September 2018) Championship match between the Springboks and Australian Wallabies, with tickets for the thrilling clash at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium almost sold out.

Mpho Mokonyama, Stadium Manager, of the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, said the support from fans has been fantastic.

“It’s always a great pleasure to host the Springboks at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. What makes it really extraordinary is that it is the sixth international test to be staged at our venue and the Boks have never lost. That is what we call home ground advantage.”

Mokonyama said the aim is to keep the stadium alive with innovative events throughout the year, proving that the venue is a fantastic catalyst for bringing the people of Port Elizabeth together.

“We are in the business of entertainment. This is what we do on a daily basis, hence we are confident to say that the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is more than ready to open its doors and welcome the world. We are looking forward to an exhilarating, fast-paced event that is a full menu of fun” said Mokonyama.

When it comes to international games there is always a huge demand for parking. Fans are urged to arrive at the stadium as early as possible.  Additional public parking will be available at schools in the North End area for a small fee. These include Sydenham Primary, Bonsai Primary School and Morewag Laerskool.

For security reasons, there will be limited routes.  Road closures around the Stadium precinct will be in effect from 8am on Saturday until match day completion – these include Stebonheath Road/Somers Road, Lakeview Road /Smart Street. Leyland Street / Rhodes Street,  Leyland Street/ Innes Street, Leyland Street / Shephard Street, Leyland Street / Bagshaw Street and Prince Alfred Road / Quick Street.

Besides the rugby action, there is a notable entertainment line-up, with a fan-park coupled with competitions and numerous activations and prize giveaways. The performance line-up promises to be nothing short of remarkable.
