All Systems go for IRONMAN Weekend

With excitement building towards the Spec-Savers IRONMAN South Africa weekend, the question on everyone’s mind is: “Can I be part of it?” The answer is emphatically yes as entries for Iron Girl South Africa, the Vodacom Corporate Triathlon Challenge and Pritt IronKids are now open!

The weekend kicks off on Friday 12 April with Iron Girl South Africa, being hosted in Nelson Mandela Bay for the third time. This women’s-only event has become an annual fixture amongst the ladies of the Bay and with the event reaching 1000 entries last year shows just how popular the race has become. The 10km fun run can be done in two formats; either as an individual or as part of a mother-daughter team. Every entrant receives a free K-Swiss race top and every finisher will receive an Iron Girl finisher medal and downloadable finisher certificate. There are great prizes up for grabs for the top three finishers in each age group and for the first mother-daughter team.  Entries are R110 for individuals and R220 for mother-daughter teams. The very next morning, Saturday 13 April, will see company teams give each other a go at the Vodacom Corporate Triathlon Challenge powered by Algoa FM. This highly sought after event sold out last year and is once again an event that is not to be missed. The Vodacom Corporate Triathlon Challenge is 10% of the full IRONMAN distance and consists of a 380m swim followed by an 18km cycle and 4.2km run. The race can be done as part of a corporate team, school team or as an individual. There are great prizes up for grabs and one lucky corporate team will win R20 000 worth of Algoa FM airtime for their company! All corporate teams who have entered and finished the race will be eligible for the draw. General entry for the Vodacom Corporate Triathlon Challenge runs from 11 February to 15 March or until the event sells out. The general entry fee is R500 for corporate teams, R400 for school teams and R300 for individuals. Late entry will run from 16 – 29 March or until the event sells out. Late entry fee is R750 for corporate teams, R600 for school teams and R500 for individuals. Enter at www.corporatechallenge.co.za.

The kids take over on Saturday afternoon as Pritt IronKids makes another splash in Nelson Mandela Bay at McArthur Pool and Leisure Centre. The popular kids’ aquathlon is open to kids from the ages of 6 to 13. Kids in the 6 – 9 age group will swim 60 metres and run 1.2km while those in the 10 – 13 age group will swim 100 metres and run 2km. The Pritt IronKids is the biggest IronKids event in the world with the event selling out with 1000 participants annually. Every entrant receives a Pritt IronKids t-shirt, finisher medal, certificate and awesome Pritt Goodie Bag. Every finisher is a winner as no times are taken. The focus is on having fun and encouraging children towards a healthy and active lifestyle. The kids will finish under the same finish line where the IRONMAN athletes will finish the next day so every child is made to feel like a hero. Entry fee is R175 and entries are limited to 1000. Enter at www.ironkids.co.za.

Entries are limited and only online entries will be taken for each event. Entries close on 29 March or when the event sells out.

What makes the IRONMAN South Africa weekend so highly anticipated is that it truly is a family weekend with something for everyone.  Come and be part of all the fun and excitement of the Spec-Savers IRONMAN South Africa weekend and with Iron Girl South Africa, the Vodacom Corporate Triathlon Challenge or Pritt IronKids.
