An African Celebration

The NMMU Dept of Arts & Culture presents An African Celebration on Sunday, 25 May 2014 at 15h00 in the NMMU South Campus Auditorium. The concert is directed and produced by NMMU Department of Arts and Culture in collaboration with music lecturers Gareth and Ulagh Williams from TwoTone Music.

The concert celebrates Africa Day and will showcase music from across the continent, including proudly SA music which celebrates 20 years of democracy. The concert will feature various NMMU students performing vocal and dance items as well as the choir ‘I am an African’ cast from Diaz Primary School and directed by Wilma Anthony.

The diverse programme includes music from Zahara , Mango Groove, Mi Casa,Brenda Fassie, MiCasa and Vusi Mahlasela. Tributes to other African countries' icons of song such as Angelique Kidjo and evergreen Swahili song 'Malaika' will also be included. One of PE's great musical exports Dave Goldblum's 'Say Africa' will also be performed. The vocal lineup consisting of NMMU students will be backed by a live band directed by Ulagh Williams from TwoTone Music.

NMMU Arts & Culture will exhibit a Talking Heads Exhibition (a silhouette project) which “talks to” areas of democracy, Africa and the legacy of Beyers Naude.
