AUTHOR AND JOURNALIST MALAN COMING TO PORT ELIZABETH
Twenty-five years after it was first appeared in print, Rian Malan’s book My Traitor’s Heart has just been republished (April 2015). Malan’s writing describes his agonizing attempt to understand his country and his place in it by investigating the violent ways that blacks and whites treated each other and themselves during the apartheid era. Timely in 1990, it is still relevant today.
“Malan is one of the finest non-fiction writers alive,” says the Wall Street Journal. Now, Malan is coming to Port Elizabeth. Malan will be speaking at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) on 29 April at 18:30 at the South Campus Council Chambers. The public is invited at no charge.
On 30 April at 18:00, Malan will be at the Red Location Backpackers, New Brighton. The evening will have Malan performing music, along with poetry readings by Mxolisi Nyezwa, Mzi Mahola and Liso Papu. The evening will include light snacks and refreshments and is open to the public without charge.
These events are sponsored by the Literary Arts Institute of The College of St. Benedict’s, Minnesota, United States and co-organised by the NMMU Department of Arts and Culture and the NMMU Office for International Education.
