Biennial Exhibition, Award 2010 set to please all art lovers
THE Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum Biennial Exhibition and Award 2010, generously co-sponsored by the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, is designed to promote artistic excellence in the Eastern Cape.

This year’s panel of selectors included art professionals Heidi Erdmann (Gallery Owner/Curator, The Photographers Gallery ZA & Erdmann Contemporary, Cape Town), Jacob Lebeko (Assistant Curator, UNISA Art Gallery), Nomusa Makhubu (Artist and Art History and Visual Culture Lecturer, Rhodes University), Mary Duker (Director, School of Music, Art and Design, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University) and Melanie Hillebrand (Director, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum).

Once again, the first round of selection was anonymous, ensuring that the selection was free and fair.  Seventeen artists were selected to exhibit their work at the Art Museum, 1 Park Drive, from 10 December to 6 February 2011.

Biennial Award finalists stand a chance to win a solo exhibition at the Art Museum and will be announced at the exhibition opening function on Thursday 9 December 2010, starting at 17:30.  Guest speaker for the evening will be David Jones, Head of the Department of Fine Art at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

Anybody requiring more information or wishing to attend the opening function should telephone the Art Museum on 041 5062000, email artmuseum@mandelametro.gov.za or fax: 041 5863234.
