CAMPBELL WINS CITY LODGE HOTELS GROUP 3 BEACHES CHALLENGE

Defending champion Bruce Campbell does it again to claim the 2016 City Lodge Hotels 3 Beaches Challenge
For the second year running, 28 year old Port Elizabeth athlete Bruce Campbell won the City Lodge Hotels Group 3 Beaches Challenge which took place on Sunday morning in strong off-shore winds and cold water. Over 170 participants registered to race along the entire stretch of the Port Elizabeth beachfront which saw 35 year old Antonella Saporta winning the ladies title and 21 year old Wayne Jones the lifesaving Ironman category.
The only event of it's kind in the Eastern Cape which sees individuals, teams of 2 and teams of 4 racing across 4 beaches and then ending with a 5km run is aptly sponsored by the City Lodge Hotels Group whose local hotels are great supporters of sport in Port Elizabeth.
Kevin Richards teamed up with Billy Browne to ensure Richards retained the duo-team title for the second year whilst the Craig family (father Ken and two son's Connor and Craig) teamed up with Graham Young to win the 4-person team category.
With tough conditions on the morning, the swimmers battled against the wind and the cold resulting in numerous withdrawals. In the lifesaving Ironman Category Wayne Jones was followed home by brother Daniel with Bryce Lloyd in 3rd place. In the Men's individual category a fast chasing Bradley Reen finished just 32 seconds behind Campbell with Jack de Kort finishing in a very impressive 3rd place whilst in the ladies category Lauren Munton finished just 10 seconds behind Saporta with Liza Kingston claiming 3rd place.
There is just two more open water swimming events remaining for this summer with round 9 of the aQuellé Ocean Racing Series taking place this Sunday followed by the Series finale on Sunday 3rd April at Hobie Beach.
