Chuene added to Table Mountain celeb ambassadors

NELSON Mandela Bay is the only city outside the Western Cape which has given its support to Cape Town’s tourism authorities’ bid to get Table Mountain voted as one of the world’s Official New7Wonders of Nature.

This follows Titus Chuene’s, marketing manager Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism (NMBT), recent call to the city’s residents to support Cape Town Tourism and vote for Table Mountain.

As a result, Cape Town Tourism has named Chuene as an official ambassador of their Table Mountain marketing campaign.

“The fact that Nelson Mandela Bay is the only city outside of Cape Town to pledge its support for Table Mountain – speaks volumes about our city. We may not have the larger budgets that other South African cities have to promote themselves, but instances such as this show our creativity and passion when it comes to marketing ourselves as effectively as possible,” said Chuene.

Chuene’s name will be added to the list of celebrity ambassadors who appear on Cape Town Tourism’s website, which includes the likes of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, SABC TV and Kfm radio personality Kia Johnson, Stylish Heart 104.9FM breakfast show co-host Julian Naidoo, entertainer Soli Philander, Springbok rugby player Conrad Jantjes and SABC Going Nowhere Slowly travel show host Stuart Taylor.

Chuene said that should Table Mountain be selected as one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the valuable exposure and increased awareness about South Africa and the resultant increase in tourists would benefit Nelson Mandela Bay and the rest of the country as well.

“The remarkable legacy for our generation as well as future generations cannot be quantified,” said Chuene.

Table Mountain is on a shortlist of 28 natural sites from around the world, but will only be chosen as one of the seven if it receives enough votes. More than 1 billion votes are expected from around the globe.

The New7Wonders Foundation, a Zurich-based non-profit organisation, announced the 28 finalists in Zurich, Switzerland, on 21 July 2009. The final two-year found of voting to choose the New7Wonders of Nature started in 2010 and ends in November 2011.
