Delegation of Foreign Economic Representatives gives City the thumbs up
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality received the thumbs up from the Foreign Economic Representatives delegation of the Department of Trade and Industry (dti) today after a day of presentations from Economic Development, Tourism and Agriculture, Mandela Bay Development Agency and the Nelson Mandela Bay Chamber of Industry.
 
Mr Vusi Mweli, Director of Export Development at the dti and head of the delegation, said he is impressed with the development taking place in Nelson Mandela Bay.
 
“I am impressed with the developments that have taken place and are continuing to take place in this city. It will make our job easier in attracting investment opportunities to the city,” said Mweli.
 
He said the city’s infrastructural development fits perfectly with the government’s plans to attract investors to the country.
 
“This visit has assisted in understanding the dynamics of the city’s economy and areas where there is still room for growth and an opportunity to b build relationships with the city’s economic stakeholders.”
 
The team, consisting of 14 senior officials, will be soon be deployed in countries such as Germany, Russia, Ghana, United Arab Emirates, Uganda and others for a four year period with the mandate of forging international links and investment opportunities.
 
“We can now link the city to prospective foreign investors in the countries where we will be based.”
 
He said the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality must keep on engaging with them in the countries where they will be based to provide information on progress and future prospects on growth in the city.
 
“We do not want this relationship to end here. The Municipality and its economic development partners must keep us on our toes by checking up on us. We must engage on a regular basis about potential opportunities that can benefit the city,” he added.
 
The presentation from Mr Pierre Voges, Chief Executive Officerof Mandela Bay Development Agency, received acclaim especially since the Govan Mbeki Avenue is a testimony of effective Innercity Rejuvenation programmes. The planned King's Beach Upgradewith a potential investment of R26 million was also well received.
 
The Mandela Bay Development Agency was established by Former Executive Mayor Nceba Faku.
 
The Nelson Mandela Bay visit came after visits to Limpopo and Kwazulu-Natal.
