EP Rugby in touch with cancer initiatives
This past weekend the EP Kings showed their softer side by donning pink rugby jerseys in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and its various initiatives. The EP Rugby executive, led by CEO Anele Pamba, decided that joining the fight against cancer would help the organisation play a more positive role in the community.“
The members of EP Rugby are looking forward to getting involved,” said public relations and marketing officer Sakhi Gqeba. “But more than that, we want to ensure that the community plays its part.“It’s not only about supporting the EP Kings, but also about fighting the disease. Cancer affects a lot of people.”
He called on all Nelson Mandela Bay residents, not just rugby fans, to support cancer awareness initiatives throughout October.EP Rugby will also be supporting the Nashua Largest Ever Bikini Photo Shoot at their home ground, the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, on October 23.
To break the existing Guinness World Record, organisers need more than 2 000 women of all ages and sizes to participate. Proceeds from the event will go to the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa). We think there’s a great ethos behind the event,” said Gqeba. “It’s a fun way for people to gain awareness of the disease and get excited about other events during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”
EP Rugby’s involvement will not be limited to October’s initiatives. The organisation has a long-term vision to adopt the broader cause of combating cancer in all its forms.
“We’ll sit down with the players next week and plan the way forward for getting involved with more cancer-related drives,” Gqeba said.
EP Rugby will be donating five of the pink jerseys, autographed by the players, to cancer-related organisations for their own fundraising efforts.
