Everyone a winner
HOSPITALITY trainer Gail Cille was drawn as Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism’s Walking the Extra Mile winner at the organisation’s annual general meeting recently.

The initiative - introduced in the middle of this year - nominated six individuals or operations that had gone beyond the call of duty to service the tourism market.

But choosing one was too difficult, so the organisation opted for a lucky draw and Cille’s name was picked from out of the hat.

“All the members deserved to win. Every one of them contributes so much to the industry in their own way. In the end, we decided to have a lucky draw to select an overall “winner”,” said NMBT’s membership coordinator Reuann Smith.

The six other nominees were Traveling Tribe, Moses Temaremoyo of Addo Afrique, Santa Zeiss of Brochure Management, Rosie Mtyingizane of Cuyler Manor Museum.

Cillie trains hospitality workers to assist partially sighted tourists. As a partially sighted person herself, she knows how difficult traveling can be as the hospitality industry does not always have the necessary skills to cater for tourists such as herself.

“I would like to the wonderful hardworking team of NMBT for nominating me as a finalist in the 2012 Walking the Extra Mile competition. I feel really honored and hope to be walking many extra miles in the future in support of our great Nelson Mandela Bay and surrounding areas,” Cillie wrote in a thank you letter to NMBT.

All nominees received a goodie bag which included amongst things a five-day NMBT pass, a cup, hat and also a certificate commemorating their nomination.

Cillie, being the lucky draw winner, received an additional prize – an overnight stay for two at the Bush lodge which includes game drives and all meals.

“We are so proud to have members who are driven and passionate about the city and promoting it through their wonderful service. Taking a moment out to recognise the importance of the intimacy of hospitality in tourism is vital. NMBT thanks all its members for their contributions to keeping the Bay the friendly city!” Smith added.
