Exciting bumper weekend ahead for Nelson Mandela Bay’s very own Bay Stars!

27 October 2011
Nelson Mandela Bay’s future hope for Premier Soccer League (PSL) status will get their first opportunity this weekend to test its mettle against a PSL side when they take on Jomo Cosmos on Saturday afternoon during a friendly match.

This is part of a bumper weekend lying ahead for the Vodacom League outfit who are still unbeaten after three gruelling league matches.

On Friday night at 19:00 the team will fancy their chances against Cacadu United at the Gelvandale Stadium after convincingly winning their two home games against Matta Milan (2 - 1) and OR Tambo (4 - 1). Their match against Kokstad Liverpool ended with a goalless draw last Saturday in Kokstad which means that the spirit in the camp remains high.

Managing Director Tony Lovegrove said the team is also looking forward to a competition of a more relaxed kind when some of the team members will be doing water duty at the Builders Warehouse Race from 8am to 11am.

“We love to be involved with events where we have fun with the community of Nelson Mandela Bay because our DNA is intertwined with that of the area since all our players represent the cream of the crop of Port Elizabeth, Uitenhage and the surrounding areas,” Lovegrove added.

On Saturday afternoon however, it will be back to business on far more familiar territory when Bay Stars will be competing against PSL team Jomo Cosmos at the soccer field of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University’s South Campus at 3pm.

Jomo Sono will use the opportunity to interact with the local players and might even impart his immense knowledge of fighting to get to the top of the South African football ladder.

Media are encouraged to cover these three important events.
