GAMBLE PHARMACY TAKE NIGHT RELAY

Gamble Pharmacy team's Robert Matthys takes over from Antonio Seconds to take his Men's team to victory on Tuesday evening.

The Gamble Pharmacy relay teams started where they left off on Tuesday evening by winning the first round of the 2016 Town Lodge Business Night Relay held at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium.

The men's relay team comprising of Mariano Esau, Brandon Eppenaar, Dawayne Lucas, Antonio Seconds and Robert Mathys had a titanic tussle with the Gamble Pharmacy mixed team and whilst the were the fastest to cover the 17.5km course in a time of 59 minutes and 32 seconds they were just 3 seconds ahead of the mixed team after Mathys managed to recapture their lead during the final 3.5km leg of the relay. The SPAR DC Eastern Cape team finished in 2nd place in the Men's category some 12 minutes further back with hosts Team Access claiming the bronze. With just over 60 teams entered, the majority were in the mixed category which saw the DHA Financial Services Team 1 finishing in second place behind Gamble Pharmacy Mixed with Jaytee Trading in third place.  In the all ladies teams, it was the National Oilwel Varco ladies that were too strong on the evening finishing ahead of the social team, Team Kili, and the MBDA ladies team whilst in the walking category the Herbalife Dream Team won in a time of 1hr 16min ahead of the Scribante Construction Walkers and the EMC Park Avenue walking team.

The Town Lodge Business Night Relay is a unique fun social team building event for local companies, sports clubs and social teams and takes place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on the last Tuesday of the month from May through to August. The event is open to running teams comprising of 5 persons or walking teams of 3 with each participant completing a 3.5km lap within the stadium precinct. Tuesday race was held in balmy May weather with a slight berg wind ensuring the evening temperatures were unseasonally warm as teams enjoyed the Red Bull music truck vibe at the Stadium. Immediately after the event participants enjoyed a brief prize giving where the top 3 teams in each of the categories received medals and a floating trophy and this followed by 13 great lucky draw prizes which included R1,000 cash, a R2,500 Asics running shoe voucher, a R500 Caltex fuel voucher, a day safari for 2 at the Amakhala Game Reserve and an awesome weekend away for 2 from the City Lodge Hotels Group.
