Ginger walks away with prestigious Diners Club Wine List Award

Dave Hughes, chairman of the judging panel, commenting on the standard of the competition, said that many of the wine lists that entered this year offered a wider choice in terms of price, with entry-level and mid-level wines providing a proper balance for the award-winning ones at the top.
“These are establishments who understand that in the present economic climate offering value is key and has as much influence on the dining experience as the food itself,” he said.
Ginger, with its cool and airy elegance and magnificent views of Shark Rock Pier and the ocean beyond has been enchanting diners since it opened its doors in 2007.
It’s fresh take on traditional fine dining combines the finest, freshest ingredients available to create dishes with a distinctive Eastern Cape influence.
“All wines are carefully chosen to compliment the dishes on our menu. We are currently creating an exciting new menu which they will once again be complimented with a fantastic wine list. Next year we will be aiming for the Diamond Award which is First place,” said Tracey Rivington, General Manager of Ginger.
Diners Club Western Cape Regional Manager Jane Ledger said that they were delighted by the sizeable increase in entries. “For nearly 20 years we have strived to recognize those establishments offering the best dining experience for our card holders and this year the increased number of entries bears testimony to the value these awards hold for the hospitality industry.”
Ginger forms part of the Port Elizabeth Hotel Group which consists of The Beach Hotel adjacent to Ginger and Pumba Private Game Reserve. Hacklewood Hill Country House, one of the few remaining original manor houses in Walmer and the exclusive The Sands at St. Francis situated in the seaside village of St. Francis also forms part of the group.
