HAPPY INTERNATIONAL TOURIST GUIDE DAY

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL TOURIST GUIDE DAY
To all members of the NMBTGA and those involved in the Tourism Industry today is International Tourist Guide Day. This is an initiative started in 1990 and 15 countries participated. Since then, tourist in an ever growing number have been giving help to their local communities, conducting tours for the disabled, disadvantaged, persons, for children, industry partners, official and general public. Events are held for local tourist guides including presentations and retraining courses. It is a public relations event par excellence, drawing the attention of local authorities, fellow citizens and the media to the quality and value of the work of professional tourist guides. Each member country contributes to the success of the day in its own way; coach companies have contributed complimentary coaches, attractions and museums have opened their doors without charge. Each year, awareness grows and there an increasing contribution by both regional and national governments to the International Tourist Guide Day.

In Sydney, Australia their Tourist Guide Association were offering free walking tours last Sunday, 19th February as their way of celebrating the 21st!!

My attention was drawn to the celebration today by Celeste Salzwedel of the Amathola Tourist Guides Association and she sends best wishes to the NMBTGA as does Yvette Odendaal now in Piketberg!

Hope you all have a great day. Keep up the good work in promoting our wonderful country as well as Nelson Mandela Bay and our surrounding areas.

Kind regards
