International Jazz Masterclasses & Concert Coming to Nelson Mandela University

Experience world-class jazz, inspiring masterclasses and an unforgettable musical journey with acclaimed Italian duo Doronzo | Minafra.

The Nelson Mandela University Department of Music and Performing Arts is proud to present a series of international jazz masterclasses and a public concert featuring celebrated Italian musicians Dario Savino Doronzo (trumpet & flugelhorn) and Livio Minafra (piano & composition) as part of their South Africa Tour 2026.

The duo's collaboration centres on FABUALE, an innovative artistic and musical project inspired by the relationship between nature and music. Combining Doronzo's expressive lyricism with Minafra's imaginative compositions, FABUALE creates immersive soundscapes that encourage deep listening and reflection. Blending contemporary jazz with elements of chamber music, classical traditions, rock and Eastern musical influences, the performances offer audiences a rich and emotionally engaging musical experience.

Internationally acclaimed, Duo Doronzo | Minafra have performed at prestigious venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Brisbane Jazz Club in Australia, Mondo.NYC in the USA, the Museu de Arte Contemporânea in Madeira, Portugal, and the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Both artists are also respected educators, lecturing in Jazz Trumpet and Jazz Piano at conservatories in Italy.

The Department of Music and Performing Arts warmly invites members of the university community, local musicians, music educators and the public to attend this unique cultural experience.
