INVESTEC NIGHT RELAY OFF TO GREAT START

Thursday night saw a great start to the Investec Night Relay Series at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium with just under 100 corporate teams taking part despite strong winds on the night. The 5 runners from Transnet proved too strong for the Gamble Pharmacy depending champions when their Men's Transnet Lions team completed the 25km distance in a time of 1hr 21min, some 2 minutes faster than the 2013 champions who have vowed to make a comeback after their Olympic runner, Lusapho April, was unable to attend. The Sage team, the Flying Sages, rounded up the top 3 in 1hr 36.

"It was a challenging evening for us as gale force winds swept across North End Lake just one hour before the event and torn through all our branding knocking down both our finish and start tunnels. Fortunately we were able to remove all branding and start the race on time and we are thrilled with the response to the first round and we're looking forward to the remaining 3 rounds this season." said Race Director Michael Zoetmulder of Zports.

Transnet continued their domination on the night with their 2nd team claiming gold in the Mixed division from the Investec and the Rushmere & Noach teams whilst the ladies from Goldberg & De Villiers won their division in a time of 2hr 6min from hosts Access Management with the Investec ladies team in 3rd place.

The Investec Night Relay also includes a walking category for teams of 3 walkers and round 1 saw the social team from the BWB Running Club, the BWB Dream Team, notching up their first win in a fast time of 1hr 30min from the Rawstron family who were the depending champions with Whitfield Fintax's, Fintax Scrambled Legs, claiming the bronze medal.

The next round of the Investec Night Relay will take place on Thursday 12th June at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium starting at 6pm. Companies keen to enter for the first time need to register online to receive a Series number. Entry fee is just R500 per 5-person running team or R300 per 3-person walking team.
