KINGSTON EXTENDS TRI LEAD
Round 2 winning ladies; Antonella Saporta (3rd), Liza Kingston (1st) and Alexia Loizou (2nd).
8 times Series ladies champion, Liza Kingston, has firmly established herself to win an unprecedented 9th consecutive ladies title after winning her category in the 2nd round of the About IT Triathlon Summer Series this morning in very testing conditions.
The traditional Day of Reconcilliation Summies to Schoenies triathlon saw participants tackle a 750m swim off Pollok Beach before heading directly into the strong Westerly winds for a 20km cycle to Schoenmakerskop and finishing off with a tough 5km trail run along the scenic Sacramento Trail.
Merrick Fairall was the overall winner of the triathlon after a head to head with Jamie Riddle on the cycle leg with Riddle withdrawing from the race at the start of the run leg. Fairall finished in 1hr 24min, just under a minute ahead of current Series leader 18 year old Keegan Cooke who put in a blistering run to make up lost time on the tough cycle leg. Jarryd Introna placed 3rd overall in 1hr 27min. Kingston's time was 1hr 38 with 2nd placed lady Alexia Loizou in 1hr 39 and Antonella Saporta in 1hr 41.
The Kingston family certainly had a great outing this morning also winning the team category with Michael Kingston teaming up with his two sons, Nick & Matt to complete the event in 1hr 34min. Melanie Norden teamed up with Paige & Slater Black to take 2nd place in the team category with 3rd place going to the team of Ronald Lange, Penelope and Ryle Murray from Port Alfred.
The 3rd and penultimate round of the About IT Triathlon Summer Series takes place on Sunday morning at Pollok Beach followed by the finale on Saturday 26th at Port St Francis. All results and information available on www.triSummerSeries.co.za.
