Liberation Struggle Heritage Tour

On Monday 28th April, Ezethu Tours will be launching a Liberation Struggle Heritage Tour with the theme "On the shoulders of struggle heroes and heroines, celebrating the contribution of New Brighton to the struggle for Freedom". This is an opportunity to celebrate the contribution of generations of freedom fighters from New Brighton.

We will visit different sites associated with certain events in the long walk to freedom. We will have different activities at these sites including a talk by a survivor of the first act of defiance in 1952. We will re-enact the march to the New Brighton Railway Station that was led by the late Oom Ray (Mr Raymond Mhlaba).

This day will also highlight a march led by Rev George Irvine in 1990 from Livingstone Hospital to New Brighton. This is going to be a family event with food stalls and refreshment stations selling food and drinks. People are encouraged to put on comfortable shoes. The tour departs at 10am from the Red Location Lodge next to the museum.
