Lilizela Tourism Awards

In 2011/2012 the National Department of Tourism (NDT) led a process to review the Welcome Awards and Service Excellence Awards which were hosted at a national level.  This review was done with an objective of developing National Awards that will start at a Provincial level with categories that will support the strategic goals of the National Tourism Sector Strategy.

The new industry Lilizela Tourism Awards are a single new award platform to showcase the tourism players and the winners who work tirelessly and passionately to make South Africa and provinces one of the preferred destinations of choice in the world.

Lilizela is an Nguni word which means to ululate - an act of congratulations when someone has done something well. The Awards will recognise and reward tourism players and businesses who work passionately and with pride to deliver a world class product and service offering, underpinned by service excellence to the millions of tourists who visit our province.


Entries for the awards are free; submission of entries will be open from the 05 and close on the 25th June 2013. Businesses need to comply with the following requirements before their application can be considered and or accepted:

•    Company registration documents (CM1 & CM29 or CK1 & CK2)
•    Tax clearance certificate
•    Brochure or Company profile outlining the services offered by your business
•    Profile of owner(s), director(s), or manager of business
•    ID/passport of each director
•    copy of the grading (TGCSA) certificate
•    Letter from the insurer stating the business is sufficiently insured (in the case of Tour operations
•    Registered Tour Guide Documentation and Accreditation

Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA) in partnership with Nelson Mandela Bay municipality will host the event in Nelson Mandela Bay (Port Elizabeth) in late August. The actual date will be confirmed and communicated in due course. The overall winners from each category will also be announced at the Provincial Tourism Awards.


Members of the public and the tourism sector are encouraged to nominate tourism establishments or service providers in the following five categories:

•    Minister’s Awards – Recognising outstanding, unique and impactful people that have performed exceptionally in the tourism industry.
 
•    Service Excellence – To improve excellence service culture in the industry.  Accommodation, Hospitality, Travel and Distribution Services, Visitor Experience of the year, Tour Operators, Tourist attractions, MESE and Tourist Guide.

•    ETEYA - To recognise the entrepreneurial flair demonstrated by new entrants into the tourism sector.

•    Sustainability and Good Governance (Social, Economic and Environmental) – To recognise those tourism products that ensure that the benefits of tourism continues to grow for generations to come.

•    Universal Accessibility: Sustainability and Good Governance.  Accommodation, Hospitality, Travel and Distribution Services, Visitor Experience of the year, Tour Operators, Tourist attractions, MESE and Tourist Guide.
