NELSON MANDELA BAY BEACHES AWARDED PRESTIGIOUS BLUE FLAG STATUS FOR 2025/2026 SEASON.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is proud to announce that five of our metro’s beaches have been recognised for excellence under the internationally acclaimed Blue Flag programme for the 2025/2026 season.

Kings Beach, Humewood Beach, and Hobie Beach have each been awarded full Blue Flag status, reaffirming their world-class standards in environmental management, water quality, safety, and services.

In addition, Bluewater Bay Beach and Wells Estate Beach have been awarded Blue Flag Pilot Phase status, showcasing their continued progress and dedication toward achieving full accreditation in the near future.

These achievements reaffirm the Municipality’s unwavering commitment to maintaining clean, safe, and sustainable coastal environments, while promoting tourism growth, environmental stewardship, and community pride. Nelson Mandela Bay’s coastline remains one of the most beautiful and well-managed in South Africa, offering residents and visitors an exceptional seaside experience that reflects the spirit and resilience of our Metro.

Executive Mayor Cllr Babalwa Lobishe welcomed the announcement, “This recognition is not only a celebration of our pristine coastline but also a testament to our collective effort as a city to build a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable environment. Our beaches are a source of pride and opportunity, spaces that connect our people, attract tourism, and drive local economic activity.

As we celebrate this achievement, the Municipality appeals to all residents and visitors to play their part in keeping our beaches clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone. Please dispose of litter responsibly, refrain from vandalising public facilities, and report any acts of damage, pollution, or misconduct to the Municipality at once. Together, we can protect these shared public assets and uphold the Blue Flag standards that bring pride and opportunity to our city.
