Nelson Mandela Bay Welcomes Tri Nations Netball Teams
Nelson Mandela Bay will host an action packed week of international netball matches from Tuesday 22 October 2013 until Friday 26 October 2013 as the Tri Nations Netball Series takes place at the NMMU indoor sports centre in Summerstrand.

South Africa’s very own pride and joy, The SPAR Protea’s will host England and Trinidad and Tobago in a thrilling showdown of three of world netball’s top 10 teams.

Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism CEO, Ms Mandlakazi Skefile said, “It is such a privilege for Nelson Mandela Bay to support this event and welcome the players and team support to our shores. It is a great opportunity to showcase our world class facilities and beautiful destination”.

Tickets are being issued free on a first come first serve basis and supplied via the local netball authorities. Have a look out for the schedule of matches to take place at the Summerstrand Campus on the NMBT web-site events calendar www.nmbt.co.za  for times. The matches will be broadcast live on SuperSport as well as in the UK and New Zealand.

Have a special look out for Nelson Mandela Bay local, Zanele Mdodana who will be making her return to the South African Team in the centre court position of wing defence after recovering from injury. Mdodana believes her team can win and called on the metro to support in their number. “Let’s show the world what an incredible host city we are,” she said.

Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism has supplied a variety of event support such as having a Visitor Information Desk available at the venue for internationals and out of town visitor’s as it is very important that they have a positive and welcoming experience.

Netball South Africa President Mimi Mthethwa said: “The teams are here to win and will be spending much of their time in preparation when not in matches, these will be tough games. You can be assured of entertaining and enthralling action on the court.”

She added: “We are very proud to be bringing the best international netball to this wonderful metro.”

The teams will be spending some time to inspire at local schools during their stay and hopefully catch a bit of what the metro has to offer such as the world class game farms and beaches.
 
Not only will Nelson Mandela Bay be home to the Tri Nations Netball series, but in addition the Diamond Challenge which takes place from the 26 to 30 October 2013. The competition features Africa’s best talent from Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa. Ms Skefile, NMBT CEO said, “We encourage all to get behind the SPAR Protea team and show our support, also support other great events which we as a destination we are proud to host.”
