NEWMAN AND KINGSTON CLAIM FIRST ORS TITLES
A large number of participants braved the windy and rough conditions to contest Round 5 on Sunday morning.
Rebecca Newman (3km swim) and Liza Kingston (2km swim) claimed their first aQuellé Ocean Racing Series titles for Season XI in very bumpy and testing sea conditions caused by the Easterly Winds which lashed the Bay since Thursday last week. Not only did the swimmers have to try and negotiate the rough seas with strong rip currents but they also had to contend with bluebottles.
Despite the conditions, over 300 participants took part in Round 5 on Sunday morning, the final ORS race for 2015. Ian Venter and Tracy Gous won the 1km Ocean Swim, Daniel Jones and Kingston the 2km swim whilst Wayne Jones and Newman took the 3km titles. In the 5km Beach Run it was Julia Pringle and Johnny Muller whilst Martiza Craig and Grobbie Grobler won the 5km Beach Walk on the morning.
The aQuellé Ocean Racing Series will return for Round 6 on Sunday 10th January and concludes with Round 9 on Sunday 3rd April. See www.oceanracingseries.com for full results and Series information.
