NMBM ASSURES ALL OF FULLY OPERATIONAL McCARTHUR FACILITY

On behalf of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality I wish to categorically state that the McCarthur Baths facility is, and always has been, fully functional and operational.

Up until 31 March 2011, the operation of the facility was outsourced - however, it is extremely important to note that whilst we outsource a service, we never outsource our responsibility. The fact that this service is no longer outsourced does not mean - in any way, shape or form - that the facility is no longer operational. Any person who says otherwise is being both dishonest as well as malicious and definitely does not hold the welfare and prosperity of this city at heart.

The McCarthur facility is properly staffed and maintained by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and this includes lifeguards and a cash office. From time to time the facility may be closed for a day or two due to routine maintenance which is normal for such a facility. As passionate partners in the Ironman programme, the facility will, once again, be used for the Pritt Ironkids event this weekend, and for all other designated events and programmes. Most importantly, McCarthur Baths remains one of many world class facilities that this city has and, through NMBT, we continue to advertise it as such.

As the designated Portfolio Councillor, I will be personally conducting an inspection of operations at 08h00 tomorrow (Tuesday, 5 April 2011) morning. Any member of the public is more than welcome to accompany me. Together, we can do more!
