18 May 2010
The annual Bukani Print Adidas Lake Farm Charity Run in association with Bay FM took place on Saturday 17 April 2010. The Charity Run was staged by Achilles in aid of the 90 mentally and physically challenged adults who live at Lake Farm Centre on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth.
Beautifully cool weather conditions ensured record times were set with George Ntshiliza of Nedbank Running Club (RC) taking first place in the 25km race, in the record time of 1:20:06. Zolani Ngqaqa of Mr Price came first in 32:02 in the 10km event. In the ladies race Mirjam Weerd excelled and won the 25km race in 1:52:07 while Deliwe Nyanga of Nedbank RC claimed first place in the 10km run in 39:02.
The medals for the race where specially made by the residents of the Lake Farm Centre who had to put in a lot of effort to complete 2000 handmade medals before the race.
“We as tourism want to put our support behind all local community and charity initiatives to help them make a success of any event. This is why we were honoured to endorse the Lake Farm Charity Run as a means of putting back into the community,” said Fezekile Tshiwula.
