OCEAN SERIES SUNDAY

Hundreds of swimmers braved the windy conditions at Hobie Beach during round 4 on Sunday morning.

Following another great turn-out on Sunday morning for the fortnightly Nelson Mandela Bay aQuellé Ocean Racing Series despite the strong off-shore winds, some of EP's top open water swimmers are starting to dominate the ocean swim disciplines.

Both Kirsten Marriott and Ian Venter won their 3rd consecutive 1km Ocean Swim on Sunday whilst Daniel Jones did the same in the 2km distance. Venter won the single lap 1km swim in windblown conditions in a time of 11min 10sec from J-Bay swimmer Seth de Swart and PE's Jamie Riddle whilst Marriott complete her swim in 12min 01sec ahead of Tracy Gous and Caroline Levey.

Jones won the 2km swim in 21min 06sec from Bradley Reen and Travis McGrath whilst Antonella Saporta got her 2nd win of season in the 2km ladies race beating Denise Bosman and Phillipa Holtz to the gold medal. Keeping it in the family, Wayne Jones snatched the 3km ocean swim win in a time of 30min 53sec from Dylan Smith and Bruce Campbell whilst Hanna Haswell won the ladies 3km swim in a time of 34min 31sec from Rebecca Newman and Brigitte Melly.

On the beach it's 15 year old Johnny Muller who is starting to dominate with a win in the 5km Beach Run following to runner up positions in round 1 and 3 previously. Muller won the run in 17min 12sec from Wayne Mitchell and Nkosikhona Vemile whilst Jo Oosthuizen took the ladies title in 22min 18sec from Reda Potts and Mihlali Ngqoza. The 5km Beach Walk saw 63 year old Grobbie Grobler taking the gold medal in 30min 1sec from Juan Slabbert and Robin Daniel whilst Martiza Craig won the ladies walk in 33min 49sec from Milé Vermaak and Natalie van Niekerk.
