Re- opening of Oceanarium at Bayworld
Bayworld’s oceanarium will be reopening to members of the public from the beginning of December 2011. The inevitable temporary closure of the oceanarium on 1st April 2011 was necessitated by the need to stop the deterioration of the oceanarium infrastructure and to reduce the operational costs of the facility.

The dangerous and irreparable infrastructure have been closed down and cordoned off, whilst interim improvements have been made which would allow time for the complete redevelopment of Bayworld into a world class tourist attraction.

The improved marine facility excludes the dolphin lake, tropical and predator fish tanks but displays 8 smaller tanks with fish and invertebrates focusing of the marine life of Algoa Bay, in addition to renovated housing for the seals and the endangered African penguins.

The renovated smaller aquarium will undoubtedly thrill visitors and also continue to support Bayworld’s education and research programmes.

Seal and penguin talks in the oceanarium are scheduled at 11 am and 3 pm daily.
