Safair Expands Johannesburg Lanseria Network: A Strategic Boost for Nelson Mandela Bay

Safair, South Africa’s leading low-cost carrier, has announced a major expansion of its Johannesburg Lanseria operations, launching new routes to East London and Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) starting November 2025. This strategic move marks a significant milestone for regional connectivity and economic growth in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Beginning 1 November 2025, Safair will operate daily flights between Johannesburg Lanseria and Port Elizabeth, offering travelers a convenient alternative to OR Tambo International. The schedule includes morning and evening departures, tailored to both business and leisure passengers.

By offering direct access to Johannesburg’s northern corridor, the service makes travel more efficient and affordable for both residents and businesses, strengthening regional mobility. This enhanced connectivity is expected to drive tourism, trade, and investment across the Eastern Cape, positioning Gqeberha as a vital gateway to the Garden Route and beyond. Moreover, the increased flight activity will boost demand for airport operations, hospitality, and logistics, paving the way for job creation and local economic development throughout the metro.
