Sappi continues support for Bayworld
19 April 2011
This substantial sponsorship has made it possible for Bayworld to design an interactive exhibition on the South African Living National Symbols for the festival. The theme for Scifest 2011 is, "Science through Cultures", the exhibition serves to highlight our collective responsibility for the conservation and preservation of our natural heritage. The essential aspects of our natural heritage such as the springbuck and protea are given new meaning through their interpretation through music, song and art. This festival attracts local, national and international exhibitors, educational institutions and visitors. After the festival the exhibition will be utilized in the daily education as well as outreach programmes to previously disadvantaged schools that are unable to come to Bayworld due to financial constraints.
“We are very proud to be associated with Sappi and their continuous support of our education programmes is heartwarming.” said the Port Elizabeth Museum School principal, Nicky Daniels.
Since 2002 Sappi has provided support for various educational projects at Bayworld. These include the upgrade of two of the Bayworld classrooms and the sponsoring of equipment to enhance the learning experience for the visiting scholars. Sappi’s Adamas Mill in Deal Party, Port Elizabeth is the leading producer of high quality graphic text and cover papers and major supplier of a range of specialty and technical grades to the packaging industry.
Last year Bayworld’s exhibition and programme at SciFest won an award for the best exhibition of the festival. The exhibition and related educational programme will become part of Bayworld’s educational resources, after SciFest and will be on display during Heritage Day celebrations later in the year.
