Sevens set for Bay glory
RUGBY fever is in the Bay as the Nelson Mandela Bay South Africa Sevens descends on the city with less than a week to kick-off on the December 9.
The week leading up to the games on Friday and Saturday will be filled with team training sessions – to which everyone is invited – signing of autographs, tag rugby and city tours by the players from participating different countries.
“The preparations for the Sevens have been great and we as a city are getting more and more excited about the rugby weekend. This really is going to be rugby’s biggest party and we are the proud host city of this epic event,” said Titus Chuene, Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism marketing manager.
Chuene added that once again, Nelson Mandela Bay had shown that it was a great host city for sporting events.
Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium marketing and communications manager Buli Ngomane said that the stadium was well prepared and ready for the weekend games.
“We are really excited to be the host venue for the games and are ready to give our local spectators a truly international experience,” said Ngomane.
Dubbed ‘Rugby’s Biggest Party’, the two day tournament will also feature a fun concert on Friday evening with artists like electro outfit Goldfish, Dr Victor and the Rasta Rebels and DJ Ready-D. Ticket holders for Friday’s game are guaranteed free entry into the concert.
Full venue details will be available in the local press from Wednesday. Tickets to the games start at R80 and are available at www.computicket.com and at their outlets at Shoprite and Checkers.
