SMS CAMPAIGN “TAKE A STAND AGAINST RHINO POACHING”
Following on the recent successful fundraising initiative of “Own The Night” radio appeal in Gauteng, the SANPark’s Honorary Rangers, Eastern Cape Region is launching a SMS campaign, “Take a stand against rhino poaching” which will run during the month of April.

The public are invited to text “Rhino” to 38488. Each sms costs R10.00. Funds raised from this campaign will go towards counter rhino poaching initiatives within the SANPark’s reserves in the Eastern Cape. These include Addo Elephant National Park, Mountain Zebra National Park and Karoo National Park

As rhino killings in the Eastern Cape have escalated over the past 10 months, it seems that rhino syndicates are specifically targeting the Eastern Cape. Authorities fear that there will be a further onslaught on the rhino population in 2011. To combat the senseless killing of one of Africa’s Big Five, financial resources are needed. The funds raised from this campaign will be used to purchase much needed specialised anti-poaching equipment, in order to save the rhino from extinction.

The campaign ends on 30 April 2011. No free sms’s apply and each sms costs R10.00 The public is encouraged to participate by making each sms count. An average of R5.50 from each sms will go towards the rhino fund and the balance will go towards admin costs. The campaign can be followed on Facebook .
