Spanish Media visit Nelson Mandela Bay

Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism (NMBT) recently hosted six Spanish Journalists who toured the city and experienced all that Nelson Mandela Bay has to offer first hand. The flights for the journalists were sponsored by the Eastern Cape Tourism Board (ECTB) and an itinerary was drafted in order to give the journalists a taste of every aspect of Nelson Mandela Bay.

They were given the opportunity to experience some of the city’s most famous attractions such as the Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment Centre and the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. They were taken on a city tour to experience our rich cultural heritage which took them to some of our old, historical buildings concentrating specifically on the architectural variety.  The tour also included a visit to the Feather Market Centre, Old Post Office, Red Location Museum and New Brighton where guests were able to interact with the locals and get a taste of truly South African township culture.

The group was joined by Mzuki Skade from the 2010 Directorate, as well as Jackie Gant from Mohair SA for dinner. They visited the Addo Elephant National Park and were taken on a guided game drive. They spotted some elephants strolling around their home. They visited other popular attractions in Addo such as the Reptile and Raptor Centre and the Daniell Cheetah breeding farm which proved to be a highlight of the programme as they go the chance to interact with the cheetahs, servals and lion cubs. The group was given insight into the history of the Addo and Kirkwood area on their tour and had the chance to see the spectacular views of the citrus farmlands and the veld.

The tour split on the final day with some of the journalists wanting to visit the ever popular Jeffreys Bay and St Francis Bay areas and others opting for a morning diving outing at Hobie Beach. Both trips proved to be a great success and wonderful experience for the journalists.

The group was very impressed not only with our city, but with the activities that NMBT had put together. They were also impressed with the friendly people of Nelson Mandela Bay and have found a great deal of material for their articles. All the journalists said that they would definitely return to Nelson Mandela Bay in the future.

The tour proved to be a great marketing tool for the city. It has shown that Nelson Mandela Bay has a lot to offer to an international market. It also shows that Nelson Mandela Bay can attract and entertain an international market.
