St Francis set to rock the techno-age with acoustic duo Alter-Irving
01 December 2010
Individually, Cindy Alter and Stewart Irving hit the international stage with chart topping singles. Alter as lead singer for Clout, with globally acclaimed smash hits like Save Me and Substitute, and Irving as lead vocalist of Ballyhoo and with solo hits like Superstar and Heart of Stone.
Together they are known as the Alter-Irving band, combining their incredible talents and international experience. Their combined record sales have exceeded 12-million units, a feat very few South African acts can claim even in today’s technological era where everything is readily available to download on the web. In 2007, they opened for Air Supply to great public acclaim, and they are currently in studio, hard at work on their first CD.
“Too many artists today rely solely on technology to create and sustain their sound, making the creativity and flexibility crucial for great live performances redundant. It is sad because, when doing that, the energy and audience-band interplay loses its efficacy as well,” said Irving.
They believe in remaining true to their roots and do not perform with backing tracks, but rather choose to perform acoustic sets, relying on their finely honed harmonising skills and their trusty guitars.
The combination of a great mixture of originals and carefully chosen covers truly makes Alter-Irving one of South Africa’s greatest finds, and an act not to be missed on the evening of December 4.
