STREET MEAL FESTIVAL
05 May 2017
Friday 16 June on National Youth Day from 9:00 to 17:00 the Northern Arts Festival will celebrate its 10th Anniversary with a “Thanksgiving Community Street Meal Festival”. This festival has become a milestone for the Northern Area that has a history of violence, gangsterism and substance abuse. Yet through all of the negativity, many positive stories and legacies are found entrenched in this community. The Northern Arts Festival created many opportunities for budding artists over the last ten years by providing a platform to showcase their God given talent.
Since 2007 no crime is committed over the duration of the festival. This in itself is a milestone for a community that is always seen as violent and unrestrained. All that our youth need is an ear and an outstretched hand of support. The Northern Arts Festival has been that and more… We want to say “thank you” by way of a meal. A meal will be served to a thousand people seated at a table and chairs in part of Kobus Road in Helenvale which will be cordoned off for this event. Others will be treated to various other offerings by generous donors. The aim is to mobilize the entire community to share goodwill and support…Everyone will be engaged to assist in the coordination, catering and marshalling of the day’s proceedings…The objective of the day would be to thank God collectively as a community for His mercy, grace and loving-kindness towards us.
The one day festivities include the showcasing of the various cultural aspects of the community and activities such as various Traditional Brass Bands, Marching Bands, Drum Majorettes, Musicians and Singers and Dancers. The proceedings will conclude with a Gospel Message of Hope and Restoration.
We invite other interested donors and volunteers to join hands with us…Your kind support and contribution will make a difference…
