Students invited to celebrate last summer whip at McArthur’s Pools
THE well-known complaint that there is nothing to do in Nelson Mandela Bay is steadily being eroded on the youth front, as local youth production company endeavours to “make things happen” – starting the year off with a student focused pool party on Saturday at McArthur Baths.

Numb City Productions is hosting a campus pool party as a catalyst for inclusion. “The Campus Pool Party is a solution for bringing Nelson Mandela Bay students from all campuses together – particularly international students and those from around South Africa who don’t necessarily know the city they are studying in – and mixing them up with the local culture and population,” said Jacques Nel, Numb City Productions creative director.

“The event is about awakening awareness of the unique offering of the incredible coastal city of Nelson Mandela Bay – already home to over 30 000 students. The event builds on Numb City Production’s reputation of hosting unique events that showcase the city. It also, uniquely, targets an international student population in Nelson Mandela Bay that numbers in excess of 3 000 people – and brings them into contact with locals in an unseen before way.”

The event will showcase a variety of Nelson Mandela Bay talent for a diversity of crowds – from bands to DJs, house music to funk, jazz and dubstep. Starting at 6pm, a cool sundowner jazz and eclectic set will be played followed by bands, after which the student audience can ease into the slick sounds of Nelson Mandela Bay’s best DJs until midnight.

The organisers say the former Up the Khyber section of McArthur’s Pool complex for will be completely transformed. “We will have two dance floors – outside and inside – two main bars and a number of satellite bars, and chill out areas,” added Nel.

On the line-up for the event are eclectic Jazz outfit, VuDu, rising indie-rock band Racing Tricycles, electro-band DBL, dance and MC trio The Showcase and deejays Faraaz, Liam, Mao, Skullmonkey, Liem, Dave and Jay-B.

The event kicks off at 6pm, a cool sundowner set will be followed by bands, easing into the slick sounds of Nelson Mandela Bay’s best DJs until midnight and is brought to the city by Numb City Productions in association with Carling Black Label, Malibu, Red Bull, Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism and Bos Ice Tea.

Nel said party-goers can expect cool vibes, great Nelson Mandela Bay DJs and bands, drinks specials and mellow poolside jams. Tickets are R70 on sale at www.quicket.co.za or at Ocean Side Surf Store: 041 586 0000. Tickets are R100 at the door.
