THE BOARDWALK – CHEERS TO THE NEXT 15 YEARS

Bongi Siwisa, the Director - Chairlady of Emfuleni Resorts and Colin Saunders, Gaming Manager at The Boardwalk, cut the cake and toast to the next 15 years of fun at The Boardwalk’s birthday celebration on Friday, 2 October 2015.

The Boardwalk is celebrating its 15th birthday this month and the milestone was celebrated at The Boardwalk’s Bravo Bar on Friday, 2 October 2015.

Over the last decade and a half, the complex has become renowned for delivering sterling entertainment to Port Elizabeth, staging a myriad of world-class events, super shows and sporting events which have attracted thousands of visitors to the city.

At the time of The Boardwalk’s opening, it was the only venue of its kind in area, offering a state of the art casino, a platform for many top South African entertainers to perform in Port Elizabeth, and a secure place for friends and families to enjoy a fantastic choice of restaurants and activities in a beautiful outdoor, lakeside setting.

Since then, The Boardwalk has consistently brought high calibre entertainment to The Bay. Amongst the South African entertainers, bands and artists who have performed on The Boardwalk’s stage are Theuns Jordaan, Lira, Zonke, Juanita du Plessis, The Parlotones, Prime Circle, Andre the Hypnotist, Loyiso Gola, Steve Hofmeyr, Karlien van Jaarsveld, Bobby van Jaarsveld, Conrad Koch and Chester Missing, Just Jinjer, John Vlismas, Tumi Morake, and Nik Rabinowitz. International acts that have graced the stage include the Venga Boys, Tamia and Tevin Campell.

However, it hasn’t only been about creating fun. The Boardwalk’s team has always known that the sustainability of the complex depends not only on their ability to deliver prime entertainment but also on their ability to support the building of a sustainable community and environment

So, from the very beginning, The Boardwalk put in place numerous social and environmental responsibility programmes, striving wherever possible to support organisations and initiatives with causes close to its heart – and the heart of the community.

“Our success over the years is due to the passion, commitment and enthusiasm of our team, and the support and loyalty of our community. We are certainly looking forward to what the next decade and half have in store for us. We have no plans to lose any of the momentum we’ve gathered. There is so much to look forward to, with great changes, more entertainment and even better facilities.

“At the heart of South Africa’s friendly city, in what is most certainly one of the most exquisite and ideal tourist locations in the country, the opportunities are endless.

“We are continuously looking for ways to expand and diversify our offering to further enhance the iconic appeal of our property so as to promote tourism and thereby contribute to the local economy.  We have invested considerably in enhancing and extending our facilities to create a complete entertainment, leisure and hospitality hub, and position Sun Boardwalk as an anchor in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.

“We will be announcing and implementing a number of exciting projects and investments in the near future which will support our endeavours to grow tourism to the Eastern Cape, and contribute to economic growth,” says The Boardwalk’s General Manager, Brett Hoppé.
