THE BOARDWALK MAINTAINS HOLIDAY MOMENTUM

Volunteers from The Boardwalk, including the Boardwalk’s General Manager, Brett Hoppé, Operations Manager Peter Tsidi, a stilt walker and a banjo player visited the children’s ward at Dora Ngiza hospital to hand out gifts and cheer to young patients

Losing none of the momentum gathered during the bustling festive season, The Boardwalk is geared up for 2016, with exciting new innovations, developments and shows to look forward to. True to its promise to bring a variety of quality entertainment to Port Elizabeth, The Boardwalk played host to some of South Africa’s foremost performers in December 2015, amongst them Johnny Clegg, Hugh Masekela, Bobby and Karlien van Jaarsveld, Just Jinjer and Ray Dylan.

Many of the shows, in particular the shows by the van Jaarsveld siblings and local band ChapterTHREE, were full to capacity. Constantly innovating its offering, The Boardwalk also introduced a new seafood restaurant, Coast, as well as a niche pop up wine and tappas restaurant, Le Vino, at the start of the holidays. With the holidays now over, Le Vino has been closed and will make way for something entirely new. Food enthusiasts can still explore exciting gourmet burgers, ribs and craft beers at Craft, sumptuously fresh seafood at Coast, and a brand new menu of authentic South African cuisine at Kipling’s Brasserie.

True to its promise to make a positive impact on the communities in which it operates, The Boardwalk was also involved in various charitable causes over the holidays. On 9 December 2016, The Boardwalk hosted its annual Sparklers event where R10 000 was raised for Khayalethu Boys. On Christmas Day the Boardwalk’s General Manager, Brett Hoppé, flanked by members of his team, burst into the children’s wards at Dora Ngiza Hospital in Zwide and Livingstone Hospital situated in Korsten to hand out gifts to young patients and spread some festive cheer. Some 130 young children who spent Christmas in hospital were treated to presents and entertainment by a stilt walker and banjo player.

“In the quick paced and dynamic entertainment and hospitality industry, we cannot be complacent. We are constantly evolving our offering to ensure that our visitors have access to new, cosmopolitan experiences. We have some exciting developments up our sleeve for this year and will be making announcements soon,” says The Boardwalk’s General Manager, Brett Hoppé.

Amongst the highlights on the entertainment calendar during the first quarter of 2016 is AUSSIE – The Australian Circus Spectacular from 25 February to 6 March 2016. AUSSIE: The Australian Circus Spectacular is a modern and exclusively human, feel-good circus spectacular that blends stunning cirque style acrobatics, hilarious vaudevillian antics and extreme, high octane stunts. The executive producer of the show is Cape Town-born Sebastian Cassie.

This is the first time that AUSSIE – the Australian Circus Spectacular has visited foreign soil, and it promises to leave audiences in awe with the cast performing unbelievable feats.  Highlights of the show include one of the world’s few surviving human cannonball acts performed by an expert stuntman Luiz Daza who has literally flown over audiences seven days a week during the sell-out run of the Great Euro Circus in Australia. Tickets are available at Computicket and range in price from R150 per person.

In April, there is the legendary Chris de Burgh’s The Hands of Man concert to look forward to on 14 and 15 April 2016 when he will treat his fans to a liver performance of songs from his latest album. Tickets are available at Computicket and range in price from R395 per person.

Other artists and shows to be featured at The Boardwalk include Rocco de Villiers in February amongst others
