THINK GLOBAL, ACT LOCAL
Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism (NMBT) celebrated World Tourism Day by promoting green and sustainable tourism. A group of NMBT employees and members walked the Lower Guinea Fowl Hiking Trail which meanders along the edge of the Baakens River flood-plain.  It is an easy walk below the city suburbs in the midst of wildflowers, trees and blue water lilies.

The hike is part of the September Tourism Month celebrations which are focused on finding one icon for the city. NMBT chief executive Mandlakazi Skefile said that both green tourism and  encouraging a love of the city in the locals is high on the NMBT agenda for the next few months.

“We chose to do the Lower Guinea Fowl Hiking Trail today to highlight the fact that we are one of the few city destinations in South Africa that has a green belt running right through the middle of the inner city – this is really one of our unique selling points,” said Skefile.
