TOP RESTAURANTS AND FOODIES TO HEADLINE FIRST TASTE OF PE

Taste Festival PE will take place from the 6-8 November 2015

Taste, the International Culinary Festival, best described by many as an unforgettable experience of foodie and restaurant heaven, has announced their first Port Elizabeth based event, Taste of PE, to take place at the Festival Lawns, The Boardwalk,  from Friday the 6th – to Sunday the 8th of November 2015. The festival will encompass an expose’ of restaurants and producers from the Eastern Cape region as well as winemakers and drinks offerings where visitors can look forward to a diversity of flavours and tantalizing tasters set against a backdrop of top entertainers to enjoy from Friday and throughout the weekend.

The Festival Lawns at The Boardwalk will be transformed into a foodie wonderland for three days of summer eating, drinking and entertainment. The line-up of Port Elizabeth restaurants include;  Colonial Kitchen - specialising in the wonder-world of Afro-Afrikaans food, Kiplings Brasserie – a place where traditional Indian Cuisine meets traditional South Africa as reflected in their menu with dishes such as the kudu bobotie samoosa. There’s also new and up and coming restaurants, Muse and Mella’s Dim Sum & Noodle Bar, all of whom have been making quite a taste-worthy impression amongst food lovers!

The tantalizing food journey won’t stop there, there is also a plateful of local and national food producers showcasing their wares; Chilladiddo – developers of authentic, flavourful and versatile range of chilli products, the Little Herb Garden – a small farm run business that manufacture products such as chilli sauces, piccalillis, mushroom mixes, artichokes, sundried tomatoes, chutneys and stuffed olives, Begk’s Smoked food - specializing in traditional Hungarian wood smoked meat products, Cork Wine Garden – boasting all things wine and decadent pairings.  Mystic Coffee - an up and coming mobile coffee shop and Quality Pickles – from crunchy, spicy, sweet and sour, they provide sauces and pickles for every taste and the ever popular Woodview Wagyu Beef - a gourmet food brand and supplier of all premium gourmet products.

Visitors are sure to have their taste buds tickled with a non-stop selection of the best in food and drink such as Caste Milk Stout (who will also be doing tasty pairings), Meridian Wines, Vinimark - The Wine Company, Arniston Bay Infusions and countless other premium brands.  The Department of Trade and Industry will also feature and the festival is supported by Core Catering and Supplies.  “We have gone out of our way to represent the culinary delights of the Eastern Cape region, ensuring this year’s event will be the start of an annual celebration that will become the most eagerly anticipated culinary occasion of the year.” says Taste Marketing Manager, Lucy Tully.  

Operating much like a restaurant, these exquisite restaurants and producers will fashion special menus of starter-size dishes for the occasion which can be bought via the official festival currency – Crowns.  , one can expect signature dishes by chefs such as Chef Ananja from the Colonial Kitchen to specially reflect their individual food philosophy and showcase seasonal and premium ingredients.  There is also a line-up of top entertainers with muso’s, Joe van der Linden, Charlie Finch and Daniel Jay as well as a Kids entertainment area so adults can roam while the kids have their own fun!

The Taste Festival will run over a period of three days, from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th November, with times varying every day. The Friday festival will operate from 18h00 - 22h00; Saturday will have two time slots, from 12h30- 16h30 and again from 18h00 - 22h00; Sunday will be open from 12h00 - 17h00.

As this is an international festival, the currency that will be accepted and used for food and drink purchases is CROWNS. The CROWNS can be pre-purchased with Premium or Taste Clubhouse tickets and can also be purchased using cash or credit card at the event from the Taste Bank or from roaming Crown Sellers dressed in pink. Each Crown is worth R5 and prices range from 4 to 8 CROWNS per dish and change will be offered in CROWNS only. Tickets for the Taste festival, when booked online will start at R80 per person inclusive of a tasting glass; alternatively tickets can be purchased at the door, starting at R100 per person, so be sure to get your tickets early!

Each Taste festival brings together not just restaurants, food, wine suppliers and premium drink suppliers, but a line-up of innovative and interactive programmes on cooking and eating designed to educate and entertain in equal measure. This unique collaboration of South Africa’s finest eateries, chefs and producers makes Taste Festivals the must-attend event in the food and social calendars across the country and now for the first time in Port Elizabeth this year, so don’t miss out!
