Tourism Clean –up Campaign

Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism (NMBT), the Eastern Cape Tourism Board and the Economic Development and Recreational Services: Tourism (EDRS) have partnered to host a tourism clean up campaign in Nelson Mandela Bay on 8 June 2010.

The campaign will be focused on attractions and heritage sites in New Brighton such as the Red Location Museum, Emlotheni and the Mendi Memorial. With just a few days to go before the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the campaign’s aim is to educate learners on the importance of visitor safety and keeping attraction sites clean and well presented for tourists.

This campaign is extremely important to the city as tourists will be visiting not only for the soccer action but also to experience South Africa’s rich culture and heritage and interact with the city’s friendly people.

“We want to present Nelson Mandela Bay in the best possible light during and after the World Cup, and by educating our youth we will be able to achieve this. We want all our tourist attractions to remain in pristine condition and visitors to our city to be treated well and feel right at home.” said Fezekile Tshiwula, CEO of NMBT.

Students will also be taught the Diski Dance, sing our National Anthem and fly our National flag. All these are important nation building tools which will serve the local communities well as they welcome the world to our shores.

This fun and educational trip will not only enrich the young learners, but will also teach them how to deal with the many tourists visiting our city during the World Cup and in the future.
