TWO EPIC CORPORATE EVENTS COMING UP
With two popular running events coming up for local companies to boost staff morale and team spirit, it’s time to start getting your colleagues and friends fired up and out their training. These two events being the Town Lodge Business Night Relay and the Nelson Mandela Bay Train Race.
The Town Lodge Night Relay, starting in June, is open to running teams of 5 runners and walking teams of 3 walkers where each team member has to complete a 3,5km lap within the stunning Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. Established in 2011 with the assistance of the Mandela Bay Development Agency, the Night Relay has grown into a popular monthly winter event attracting over 100 corporate and club teams.
Entries at just R500 per running team and R300 per walking team are open through the Zsports website with the first of the 3 race nights taking place on Thursday 25th June. Medals and floating trophies are up for grabs in the Men’s, Ladies and Mixed running category as well as the winning walking team. Each race night ends with the popular lucky draw prize giving which always features great prizes which include a R500 Caltex fuel voucher and R1,000 cash.
The second event is the Nelson Mandela Bay Train Race which returns for its second running on Sunday 2nd August and is open to teams of 7 runners. Whilst the event is still struggling to secure a suitable naming partner, it’s popularity is without question with organisers anticipating over 300 teams this year. A fun corporate, man versus machine, race between Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage stations, the event helps to promote the public metro rail system between the two major towns of Nelson Mandela Bay whilst also creating awareness for local community needs through local charity Love Story.
Open to company teams, club teams, social teams and schools teams, the inaugural Nelson Mandela Bay Train Race in 2014 featured no fewer than 220 teams and was won by IAC Investments in a fast time of 1hr 57minutes which was less than a minute slower than the train.
Online entries for the train race are now open, keep posted to the website (www.nmbtrainrace.co.za) or the Facebook Page (Trainrace) for infoon the build up to this event.
