How are we alike and how are we different?  Find out as we compare different cultures represented in art such as Indian miniatures, Chinese textiles, Japanese wood-cuts, Xhosa beadwork, British oil paintings, international prints and everything else in between.

Fun in the Sun
22 September 2012 – 6 January 2013
The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum celebrates the change of seasons with a light- hearted exhibition inspired by summer.  Artworks on display include subjects relating to flowers, landscape, recreation, beaches, holidays and fun.

Ship and Shore
1 October 2012 – 27 January 2013
Inspired by the sea and the nearby shipping industry, this exhibition will display a variety of nautically-themed artworks. The exhibition will include historical paintings of Port Elizabeth by famous Africana artists and modern views of ships and port cities.

The Art of a Stamp

12 October – 9 December 2012
To celebrate International Mail Month, the South African Post Office has curated an exhibition of designs for stamps. This unique collection is on loan from the South African Post Office Heritage Centre in Pretoria and is rarely seen by the public. This is an opportunity not to be missed.
 
100 Shades of Grey
24 November 2012 –March 2013
From the sharp black and white contrast of linocuts to soft tones of lithographs, this exhibition explores the use of monotones in a selection of work from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum’s Permanent Collection. Works on display will include prints, photographs and white plaster body moulds by the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum Biennial Exhibition and Award 2008 winner, Christine Maree.
