World Environmental Week
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries, & Environment together with Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Waste Management and Parks and Cemeteries took to Motherwell to launch World Environmental Week today. The week will comprise of different activities that include cleaning-up the community, planting trees and beach cleanups throughout the week. Addressing the audience, Ms. Tracey Fared said the main purpose of this program is to celebrate the World Environment Month and encourage communities to implement conservation management strategies to reduce pollution and highlight the impact that land pollution has on the marine resources. “It’s fundamental to acknowledge the role that pollutants have from source to sea. The impacts of waste pollution were visible during the recent floods in Gqeberha, drainage systems get compromised due to waste and makes it difficult for water to flow. We need to safeguard the environment for future generations.
