A NEW jewel has been added to the crown of South Africa’s best wildlife experiences in the Eastern Cape. Addo Wildlife brings together the Sundays River Valley’s two iconic farming activities – game and citrus – to offer a destination for the whole family including kids’ activities, outdoor adventure, and local home-made produce.

Addo Wildlife is a brand-new addition to the Addo tourism portfolio, an ideal destination for day outings and also offering accommodation and venues for conferencing, weddings and events, general manager Jannie Gie said.

The Tangelo Restaurant puts a contemporary spin on traditional South African fare, with a citrus theme reflecting the area’s farming bounty and using local produce as far as possible. It extends into the vast Tangelo Farm-Stall offering an array of “hand-made, down-to-earth food the traditional way”.
Gie said a unique aspect of the Addo Wildlife experience was the opportunity to take a tractor tour through the citrus orchards, into the 400-hectare game farm to see kudu, springbok, impala, blesbok, bontebok and wildebeest amongst others. The tour continues down to the game farm's 1km river frontage along the Sundays River to experience the valley’s unique natural environment and scenic beauty.

In addition to game-viewing in the wild, Addo Wildlife also offers plenty of opportunities for up-close, personal animal interaction, with a wildlife conservation and rehabilitation centre, aviary with raptors and stunning variety of parrots, reptile and crocodile zone and snake house, a wildlife touch farm and the opportunity to feed the animals.

“Addo Wildlife offers a great day out for the whole family, and we are an ideal venue for team-building, kids’ parties, school camps and outdoor education, incorporating our various outdoor adventure activities, as well as stylish country weddings, and conferencing close enough to the city for convenience and far away enough to break away from the office,” Gie said.
Outdoor activities include a climbing wall, archery, paintball, canoeing and fishing; while the venue also offers the ideal setting for planned courses such as handling of venomous snakes, photography, painting, cooking and wine-tasting.
Comfortable country-style accommodation is offered on the farm and the facilities are wheelchair-friendly.

The restaurant menu and farm-stall product range were developed by well-known Port Elizabeth executive chef consultant Dean Dickinson. Visitors can expect to find a variety of venison dishes, home-made pies, artisan breads and pastries, locally-grown veggies, herbs and free-range eggs, the “most amazing pizzas in the country”, Tangelo’s signature chocolate truffles, and a wide range of home-made preserves, chutneys and deli items.
Local produce will also be on sale at the monthly farmers’ market.
