Rheta’s Trail

Originally created by local resident Retha Taylor, the owner of the beloved Sacramento Restaurant, the trail began as a personal project and quickly evolved into a community treasure. With the help of local residents and workers, Retha transformed a quiet stretch of land into a living outdoor gallery filled with quirky decorations, found objects, and hundreds of artistic curiosities. Each item along the trail tells a story—some deeply personal, others simply whimsical—inviting visitors to pause, reflect, and engage with the space.

The trail is located behind the homes in Schoenmakerskop and can be accessed between numbers 22 and 24 on Marine Drive. Though short in length, it’s rich in character and perfect for a leisurely stroll. What once began with a small labyrinth has now been beautifully replaced by the Face Garden, a stunning community-built installation crafted by the villagers of Schoenmakerskop. This vibrant garden features expressive faces sculpted from natural materials, each one adding to the trail’s unique atmosphere. It’s a place for joy, reflection, and connection—a symbolic gateway into the imaginative world that follows.
