Trinder Square

Trinder Square was originally a natural wide vlei/pond used for watering cattle and horses. The vlei has long since been filled in and today is used as a playground for children. Trinder was a family name of the merchants Joseph and William Smith who owned property nearby.
Anglo-Boer War Memorial

Located in front of the Town Hall in Uitenhage, the memorial was unveiled in 1904. The names of Uitenhage citizens who died in the Anglo-Boer War are inscribed hereon. The features of the life-size soldier were reportedly copied from that of an actual soldier in King William’s Town.
Hillside House (NMMU Campus)
